University Choir Concert: Music of Peace, Music of Joy

Saturday, July 16, 2016 7:30 pm - 7:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Music of Joy and Peace is a collaborative, interactive performance with Mini Ode Kwewak N’gamowak (the Good Hearted Women Singers). Members of the University of Waterloo Choir have spent several seasons working in global, community musics, engaging in song-sharings, collaborative compositions, and improvisation sessions with one another and guest artists. This collaboration is their first direct First Nations teaching facilitated by traditional song keepers. It follows their recent participation in the Benefit Concert for Attawapiskat (May 10, 2016) and the Voices for Peace Concert where they sang the premier of Earth Peace by Carol Ann Weaver (June 9, 2016). The concert features some of the choir’s favourite energetic pieces including the Balinese Janger, O Fortuna from Carmina Burana, Kwela-Kwela from South Africa, and Loreena McKennit’s Tango to Evora.
