German and Austrian Masterpieces: orchestra@uwaterloo

Repertoire includes the Brahms Piano Concerto #2 in Bb major, with Soloist Eric Liang (winner of the 2018 UW Concerto Competition) and Von Suppé ‘s Poet and Peasant Overture plus Bruckner’s  Overture in G minor.

Every two years, orchestra@uwaterloo holds a Concerto and Aria Competition that is open to University of Waterloo students and recent graduates, and is judged by a panel of professional musicians. Winners perform as soloists with the orchestra in a public concert.  The contest is sponsored by Prof. David Taylor.

Balinese Gamelan Ensemble Concert

Balinese Gamelan EnsembleThe Balinese Gamelan is meant to be heard outdoors, so please join us at Waterloo Town Square for a terrific evening concert.  Free admission.  This ensemble is directed by I Dewa Made Suparta, a noted Gamelan composer, and Dr. Maisie Sum.  Stay after the concert to try out an instrument or two.

Voicescapes: University Choir Concert

University ChoirThe human voice is an incredible instrument, not only capable of carrying text, but also showcasing many different sounds to convey emotion or create atmosphere. Voicescapes will explore some of these capabilities, featuring music by composers such as Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, Stephen Hatfield, Morten Lauridsen, and Sarah Hopkins.

Fairy Tales & Legends: orchestra@uwaterloo concert

orchestra@uwaterlooA moving concert of vocal and instrumental music inspired by magical tales and legends.  The music ranges from the enchanting "Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty" ballets by Tchaikovsky to arias from Mozart's "Magic Flute" and Massenet's "Cinderella", as well as orchestral music from Gounod's "Faust" and the great Can-Can from "Orpheus in the Underworld".

Noon Hour Concert: Touring Europe

Joseph Lanza, violinPlaying on period instruments, violinist Joseph Lanza and harpsichordist Borys Medicky will play a selection of classical music from Europe.  Lanza is a professor at Western University, and the concertmaster of the London Symphonium.  Medicky is an internationally known harpsichordist, who also does repairs and builds instruments as a side line.  Borys Medicky
