Grebel Students bring The Music Man to Life

Tuesday, March 21, 2017

100 university students. 200 hours of rehearsal. 3 performances. 76 trombones.

Every two years, Conrad Grebel University College students band together to launch a completely student run musical – a true community building endeavor. This year’s show is The Music Man by Meredith Wilson, and involves students across every faculty at the University of Waterloo, from first to fourth year. Even as they approach the end of term crush of final projects and exams, these driven young adults are pouring their talent and energy into directing, producing, and performing.

“I’ve been absolutely amazed by the effort and energy put forth by all those involved in this show,” reflected Renée Serez, co-director of the musical. “Everyone from production to pit band to cast have been dedicated to making this show the best it can be. I’m so proud of the joyful, energetic, delightful show we’ve ended up with.”

To everyone’s pleasure, the Grebel production of The Music Man has sold out and has a waiting list of eager audience members. Students will perform on March 24 and 25 at the Conrad Centre for Performing Arts in Kitchener.

This weekend, the Grebel community is looking forward to seeing the result of so much hard work. And in the paraphrased lyrics of the Music Man townspeople, they’ll be glad they “gave Iowa a try!”
