Faculty and staff in the Faculty of Engineering were recognized for their contributions at the annual faculty and staff awards lunch.
Hosted by Dean Mary Wells, the event brought the Faculty together to celebrate 16 award recipients and to acknowledge the collective work that supported another strong year for Waterloo Engineering. “It is a pleasure to come together as one Faculty to celebrate the people who make this place what it is,” said Wells. “Thank you for stepping in, following through and supporting one another.”
Wells also congratulated those recognized during the event, noting the impact of their leadership across the Faculty. “To today’s honourees, congratulations. This recognition was well deserved. Thank you for the leadership you showed and the example you set, in big ways and small ones,” she said.

- Mary Robinson — Faculty Unsung Hero Award
- Weiyi Shang — Faculty Research Excellence Award, associate professor
- Mahesh Tripunitara — Faculty Teaching Excellence Award
- James Tung — Faculty Teaching Excellence Award
- Adrian Gerlich — Faculty Research Excellence Award, full professor
- Jean-Pierre Hickey — Faculty Research Excellence Award, associate professor
- Nicola Kelly — Outstanding Staff Performance Award – Administrative
- Pendar Mahmoudi — Boyce Family Award for Teaching Excellence and Faculty Teaching Excellence Award

The awards highlighted excellence in teaching, research and service and reflected the contributions of faculty and staff whose work strengthened the Faculty and its community throughout the year.
