Submitting in the Absence Database
Submitting an Absence declaration
- Log into the Absence Database
- Select the reason for your absence:
- Upload your documentation by clicking to open your file directory, or dragging and dropping the file:
- Fill in the dates of your absence – these dates should match the dates on your documentation. Note that you are expected to return to academic activities the day after your Final day of absence:
- From the drop-down menu, select the severity of your illness, as described on your VIF under Degree of Incapacitation:
- Provide additional information that is relevant to your absence. NOTE: Instructors will see anything entered in this field, so you should not include any medical information.
- Provide any additional details that support your absence that you do not wish for your instructors to see. Only reviewers will see this information and it will not be shared.
- Add assessment information to the courses where you have missed something. If you are clearing an INComplete and have missed an assessment for that course, you must list the course and assessment details in the last field:

- Click the Submit button:
- Your submission will be reviewed for accuracy and validity of documentation. If there are any questions, you’ll receive an email from math-vif@uwaterloo.ca
- Once your submission has been approved, you will receive a confirmation email.
