Implementation of the Math Strategic Framework follows an ongoing cycle of engagement and review. This provides flexibility to adapt to new opportunities, respond to unforeseen challenges and shift our focus from areas where progress has been made toward where it is still needed.
Efforts across Mathematics move us toward our strategic objectives. This includes strategically aligned activities in every unit and pan-Faculty initiatives. Each year, we consult our community to inform the selection of a focused set of objectives for pan-Faculty action.
2026 Math Strategic Framework Update
Informed by feedback from Math community members and a review of our current context, the Math Strategic Planning Committee (MSPC, membership below) updated the Math Strategic Framework with the following changes for 2026:
- The lenses of the original framework have been restated as a goal
- An additional objective has been added to this goal, focused on operational resilience
- “Fundamental” research has been rephrased as “foundational” research
2026/2027 Priority Objectives
- Amplify research and education that is connected to local and global needs.
- Expand the international reach of the Faculty of Mathematics, with a focus on international student recruitment and admissions.
- Highlight the value of foundational research and scholarship.
- Increase operational resilience and agility.
- Shape an Artificial Intelligence strategy for the Faculty of Mathematics, advancing objectives in goals related to foundational research, research and education with impact, teaching and learning, and operational resilience.
