Putnam Results 2016

The results of the 2016 Putnam Competition have arrived. 

The University of Waterloo team did extremely well this year, finishing in 6th place out of 568 institutions. 

The top 5 universities were as follows:

  1. Carnegie Mellon University
  2. Princeton University
  3. Harvard University
  4. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  5. Stanford University

The next 5 universities, in alphabetical order, were California Institute of Technology, Harvey Mudd College, University of California - Los Angeles, University of Washington, University of Waterloo.

Congratulations to the University of Waterloo team members:

Daniel Spivak, Anzo Zhao Yang Teh, and Antonio Molina Lovett.  

Many other Waterloo students performed exceptionally well, indeed 26 University of Waterloo students were among the top 501 contestants.

Daniel Spivak was the top University of Waterloo student. He was among the top 10 of 4164 contestants.

The following 4 students, listed in alphabetical order, were among the top 100 contestants and received honourable mention:

Sina Abbasi, Albert Gevorgyan, Nihal Pednekar, Anzo Zhao Yang Teh.

The following additional 7 students, in alphabetical order, were also among the top 200 contestants:

Zouhaier Ferchiou, Zhengyu (Jarry) Gu, Andrew Jay , Yuval Ohapkin, Erlang Wiratama Surya, Fengyang Wang, Jun Yan.

The following additional 7 students were also among the top 300 contestants.

Robert John Cummings, Xinle (Clair) Dai, Ting Han (Tony) Hu, Billy Jin, Antonio Molina Lovett, Liam Palmer, Frieda Rong.

The following additional 7 students were also among the top 501 contestants.
