Winners of the 2021 Huawei Prize for Best Research Paper announced

The Faculty of Mathematics recognizes two graduate students for their outstanding research papers. Dan Ursu, a PhD student in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Simeon Krastnikov, a recent master student of the Cheriton School of Computer Science, have been announced as the individual winners of the 2021 Huawei Prizes for Best Research Paper by a Mathematics Graduate Student. This award comes with a prize of $4,000 and is presented to recognize exceptional papers that present original results and lasting impacts. 

Dan Ursu won for his sole authored work titled Characterizing traces on crossed products of noncommutative C*-algebrassupervised by Professor Matthew Kennedy.

Simeon Krastnikov won for this paper titled Efficient Oblivious Database Joins, authored by Krastnikov and co-supervisors Professor Douglas Stebila and Professor Florian Kerschbaum.
