Walking Tour: Black Presence in Berlin

Wednesday, May 15, 2024 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Book your spot with Peggy Plet & Juanita Metzger from Stroll Walking Tours to learn about the lives and accomplishments of Black residents who lived in Kitchener in the late 1800s and early 1900s when it was still called Berlin – your first clue about the title of the walk!

You’ll learn about the Queens Bush settlement, meet Black teachers and find out where one of them opened a private school; you’ll meet an ex-slave who arrived on the Underground Railroad and ambitiously owned & operate several businesses on King Street; you’ll learn about segregation in education, the military and entertainment and a few more stories in between.

Space is limited to 22 participants and you will need to complete the online waiver in advance of the walk. After you've registered, you will receive a confirmation with location details. Please note this walk will take place in downtown Kitchener.
