The David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science is pleased to announce its inaugural Wes Graham Research Symposium & Computer Science Awards. The ceremony takes its name from James Wesley (Wes) Graham, a humble visionary known as the “father of computing” at the University of Waterloo and an academic who devoted his career to making the magic of computers available to everyone.

On Friday, September 28 we will launch the new Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute.
The Institute brings together under one umbrella Waterloo’s 40 security researchers from across the University. These renowned experts are collaborating to uncover new approaches to security and privacy while also partnering with corporations and government to advance the application and implementation of cybersecurity and privacy technologies.
Marc Morin is the co-founder and CEO of Auvik Networks, creators of cloud-based software that makes it dramatically easier for IT managed service providers to monitor and manage their clients' IT networks. A serial entrepreneur, Marc has previously co-founded several successful companies, including PixStream (acquired by Cisco for USD$369 million) and Sandvine (Sold to Francisco Partners for CAD$582 million), and is a seed investor in a number of local tech companies.
Pop by the Mathematics 3 (M3) Atrium any time throughout the day and watch as the omnitruncated dodecaplex comes together. Piece-by-piece the 3D polytope model will be put together by Professor Benoit Charbonneau and student, staff, and faculty volunteers. At the end of the day it will rise up and be a permanent art installation in M3.
The Bridges Lecture Series will host Amelia Defalco (Medical Humanities) and India Morrison (Neuroscience) on March 27. They will provide an overview of how human social, emotional touch may have emerged from multiple brain mechanisms governing attachment and physical closeness between individuals.
The University of Waterloo’s Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) will host the Canadian Team Mathematics Contest on Tuesday, April 9.
On October 2, the Waterloo Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute annual conference will highlight innovative cybsersecurity research and collaborations with keynote speakers, panel discussions, and industry talks. This conference is open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, entrepreneurs, start ups, government, sponsors, and local businesses. Additional details will be posted in the near future.
