A multitude of election systems have been proposed for choosing both single winners (for mayor, governor, or president) or multiple winners (to a council or committee). Those based on approval voting, which allows voters to vote for more than one candidate or party, are especially appealing.
The winner will go on to compete in the University of Waterloo 3MT competition, held on April 2. Come out and cheer on the graduate students.
Duke University Professor Hubert Bray will present two public lectures. These events are free of charge, and everyone is welcome.
The lectures take place in EIT 1015

Abstract:
This Turing Award talk intermixes a bicycle ride across America during the summer of 1988 with the design, construction and commercialization of Postgres during the late 80’s and early ‘90’s. Striking parallels are observed, leading to a discussion of what it takes to build a new DBMS. Also, indicated are the roles that perseverance and serendipity played in both endeavours.
