The Faculty of Mathematics invites you to join us at this celebratory event, hosted in honour of your accomplishments. Enjoy an evening of delicious food, receive a keepsake gift, make memories in our 360 photo booth, and hear inspirational speeches by the Dean of Mathematics, Mark Giesbrecht, and recent Math alumni.
Celebrate before you graduate!
Second, third and fourth year undergraduate students are invited to come out and learn more about graduate studies in Faculty of Mathematics.
There will be an overview of graduate studies in the Faculty of Mathematics including a brief description from each unit:
Tompa received his doctorate from the University of Toronto in 1974 and has been a faculty member with the school since. He served as chair of Computer Science for two terms, one in the 1990s and one in the 2000s.
A brief reception will begin at 5:30 pm followed by dinner at 6:00 pm.
At the ceremony, we will honour students who have established outstanding academic records in a number of areas. During the evening, we will honour first year entrance award winners, upper-year Senate Scholarship winners, students who have done well in university competitions, and recipients of numerous one-time awards.
This event is by invitation only.
Please contact Christina McDougall for more information about the ceremony.
In this special faculty-wide teaching colloquium, 2011 Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) Excellence in Teaching Award recipient Yvan Saint-Aubin of Université de Montréal presents:
Abstract: My PhD is in physics. I was hired by the Département de mathématiques et de statistique of Université de Montréal*, probably because my thesis used some advanced differential geometry. But my education in mathematics was at best patchy. I will share some of the pleasures and misgivings of learning mathematics while teaching it.
Half time at the women’s game will feature the annual Alumni vs. Staff Monster Hoops Showdown where three staff members will battle three alumni for the 2014 Monster Hoops Championship title.
