The second-ever Canadian team to compete in the European Girls Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) were awarded two medals and two honourable mentions.

Canada was represented at the EGMO by:

  • Anna Krokhine (Toronto, ON) - Bronze Medal
  • Siyu Elaine Liu (Oakville, ON) - Bronze Medal
  • Katherine Forbes (Edmonton, AB) - Honourable Mention
  • Zixian Wei (Charlottetown, PE) - Honourable Mention

CMS Mathematical Competitions Chair, Professor Dorette Pronk (Dalhousie) and Deputy Leader Sarah Sun (GoldSpot Discoveries Inc.) led the team. The University of Waterloo Faculty of Mathematics proudly provided financial support to the Canadian Mathematical Society to send Team Canada to this year’s event.

Held this year in Kyiv, Ukraine, the EGMO is an invitation-only competition that includes teams from more than 50 countries and focuses in part on creating a community of female mathematicians. Each student competes individually, solving six questions over the course of the two-day event.
