Ian Goldberg, a professor in the Cheriton School of Computer Science, has been awarded $800,000 from the Innovation Fund of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) for his project, "UPSCOPE: Understanding Privacy, Security, and Cryptography in Online and Physical Environments."
The grant is part of $51.2 million awarded to Waterloo researchers to support research in geothermal energy and storage, security and cryptography, artificial intelligence, the environment, and more.
"When we invest in science and innovation, we are investing in our well-being and prosperity," says the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, minister of Transport and Quebec Lieutenant. "Our researchers continue to distinguish themselves internationally and, by supporting them, we are helping them to continue to improve our quality of life, fight climate change and inspire the next generation of researchers across the country and around the world."
Two professors from the Faculty of Mathematics were also named new Canada Research Chairs: Aukosh Jagannath was named Canada Research Chair in Mathematical Foundations of Data Science, and Ruodu Wang was named Canada Research Chair in Quantitative Risk Management.
