Why Waterloo?
From the moment I knew that I wanted to study actuarial science in university, I knew I wanted to go to the University of Waterloo, because when I think math, I think Waterloo. The fact that it is the only university with a Faculty of Mathematics was a huge draw for me because it told me that math is something important here, something that is regarded just as highly as any of our other programs. Co-op was the other big draw for me. Through co-op I am able to gain two years of paid work experience, which is a huge step towards getting the job that I want after graduation, while at the same time it helps me to pay for my education.
Advice for first-year students
My advice to new students is that you should never be afraid to ask for help. Professors may seem like big scary people at the front of a massive room, but really they are the nicest people in the world and they really want you to succeed.
