Four Faculty of Mathematics researchers, whose research is deemed on the verge of a breakthrough, will receive supplemental funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC).
The four researchers are among 10 researchers at the University of Waterloo receiving Discovery Accelerator Supplements (DAS). They are among more than 100 researchers at Waterloo who are receiving funding through Discovery Grants, Research Tools and Instruments grants, and Postgraduate and Postdoctoral fellowships.
The four researchers selected by NSERC to receive a $120,000 DAS are:
- Professor Brian Ingalls (Applied Mathematics): Model-based design for synthetic (micro) biology
- Professor Matthew Kennedy (Pure Mathematics): Operator algebras associated to groups and noncommutative convexity
- Professor Daniel Vogel (Cheriton School of Computer Science): Human-computer interaction in spatial augmented reality
- Professor Ruodu Wang (Statistics and Actuarial Science): Model uncertainty and robustness in risk management
