Research resources and opportunities for undergraduate students
Interested in research on campus? The Faculty of Mathematics has several opportunities for undergraduate to develop their research skills which are administered through the individual unit. Please refer to the individual units for more details on available research opportunities, which may include NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA), Undergraduate Research Assistantship (URA), internships, etc:

Interested in publishing your work? The Faculty of Mathematics is proud to have The Waterloo Mathematics Review which showcases research achievements by undergraduates at the University of Waterloo. Undergraduates are able to publish their original research and contribute expository articles to The Review so long as topics are related to mathematics.
Interested in going beyond 400-level courses? Undergraduate students may be permitted to enrol in graduate-level courses to broaden their view of current research. For further information, contact the graduate office of the relevant Faculty of Mathematics department/school.
Research awards for undergraduate students
The Jessie W.H. Zou Memorial Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research - The Faculty of Mathematics is unique in offering a prestigious award for excellence in undergraduate research - the Jessie W.H. Zou Memorial Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research.
Professor Ming Li and his family have created this award in honour and memory of his late wife, Jessie Wenhui Zou. With this award, the family wishes to support research activities at the undergraduate level within the Faculty of Mathematics to carry on Jessie’s passion for education.
The spirit of this award is to acknowledge research achieved by students at any time during their undergraduate career. This award will provide $1,000 to one Faculty of Mathematics undergraduate student and recognition at his/her/their convocation.
The 2019 awardee is Kevin Hyun from the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science.
The President's upper-year awards - The President's upper-year awards include the President's International Experience Award and the President's Research Award. Both awards valued at $1,500 allow students that participate in an international study/work experience or on-campus research experience to claim up to $1,500.
