Congratulations to Professors Penny Haxell and Javid Ali, winners of the 2014 Faculty of Mathematics Award for Distinction in Teaching!

Professor Haxell has received consistent applause from her peers and students for not only being an effective instructor with high standards but, for being a teacher that inspires enthusiasm for the material she teaches. Her lighthearted nature and logical, straightforward manner have made her a favourite among students.

Bruce White Atrium dedication

When the University of Waterloo dedicated the atrium of the new Mathematics 3 building this week, the name of the generous donor who helped make it possible wasn’t on it. He wanted his high school math teacher to have that honour instead. Bruce White is a retired educator who taught Mathematics at Vincent Massey Secondary School in Windsor, Ontario. He is a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence and the University of Waterloo’s Descartes Award for Outstanding Teaching in High School Mathematics.
