Thomson Reuters and the University of Waterloo are joining forces to fuel breakthroughs in data science and develop the next generation of global entrepreneurial leaders. The wide-ranging collaboration is valued at over CAD $20 million over the next five years.

The Faculty of Mathematics component features a Research Chair in Data Cleaning from Theory to Practice, initially held by CS Professor Ihab F. Ilyas.

Today, graduating students in the Faculty of Mathematics will receive their degrees. 

Sun Life Financial Asia (Sun Life) and the University of Waterloo have reached an agreement to partner on building critical actuarial and risk capacity in Indonesia. As part of Sun Life’s commitment to Indonesia, Sun Life will donate CAD $500,000 to establish a Fellowship in International Actuarial Science, to be launched by University of Waterloo in 2016 with the goal of contributing to the development of the actuarial sciences field in Indonesia.

The Waterloo Black Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest competition team has placed 13th overall at the 2016 world finals in Phuket, Thailand.

The late Professor William Tutte was inducted into the Waterloo Region Hall of Fame today. This honour is a tribute to the inductees' accomplishments and outstanding contributions to the community.

The results of the 2015 Putnam Competition have arrived.

The top 5 universities were as follows.

1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology 2. Carnegie Melon University 3. Princeton University 4. Stanford University 5. Harvard University.

The next 5 universities, in alphabetical order, were University of California-Los Angeles, Duke University, Harvey Mudd College, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Washington University at St Louis.

"Ian joins an elite group of math educators," says nominator Serge D'Alessio. "The only other Waterloo faculty member to receive this prestigious award was Brian Forrest back in 2007."
