Why I love my program 

I love Biochemistry because it allows me to explore the intersection of chemistry and biology and understand how these two fields work together at a molecular level. I enjoy learning about the many different areas and subfields within science, from understanding the chemical reactions that occur in living organisms to exploring the biological processes that contribute to human health. The variety within the program allows me to continuously discover new areas of science that really interest me.

I chose Waterloo because I was drawn to the wide range of courses and learning opportunities available through the Biochemistry program. I was also particularly interested in the co-op program, as I saw it as a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in different work environments and explore a variety of career paths. I felt that Waterloo would allow me to grow both academically and professionally while helping me discover the areas of science that I am most passionate about.

How I get involved: Over the past few years, I've made an effort to get involved at the University of Waterloo by exploring a variety of opportunities. I was a member of SciSoc, I was also VP Social and later President of BUGS, was part of the Marketing team for the Cancer Foundation, and worked as a Science Orientation Leader.

Why I love my program 

I love my program because of the flexibility it offers. It gave me the opportunity to explore different minors, complete prerequisites for a wide range of career paths, and tailor my degree to my interests. After second year, there are very few mandatory courses, which means I was able to choose classes based on what I genuinely enjoyed learning. The versatility of the program also makes it easy to complete prerequisites for various professional schools or careers, while the required courses in first and second year already cover a large portion of those requirements.

Why University of Waterloo? 

The co-op program was definitely one of the biggest factors that drew me to Waterloo. Before coming here, I was unsure of what I wanted to pursue in the future. Through the co-op program and the opportunities it has provided, I've been able to explore different career paths, narrow down my interests, and build valuable professional connections that I know will benefit me in the future.

How I get involved: I stay involved by volunteering with Let's Talk Science, where I engage young students in STEM through hands-on activities. Additionally, my role as a biology TA allows me to support fellow students academically while deepening my own understanding of the subject.

How I get involved: Throughout my studies at Waterloo, I was the Outreach and Communications Coordinator and later Director of the UW Healthcare Symposium Club. Additionally, I enjoy attending various events around campus as it’s a great way to meet and connect with people!

Why I love my program

I love all the sciences but out of all of them, biology has always interested me the most. I enjoy learning about how living organisms function, the processes behind them, and their interactions with the environment. While majority of my program consists of biology courses, I also like how it’s flexible as it includes space for electives. My electives help me relate concepts from my core courses across different disciplines, think holistically and broaden my perspectives in terms of application. My program allows me to focus and specialize my learning in the different branches of biology while still having the opportunity to explore other areas of interest such as in psychology, health and environmental science.

Why University of Waterloo? 

I chose Waterloo for their emphasis on finding opportunities, building professional skills, and gaining real world experience through their co-operative program. The aspect of a program that supports developing proficiency both inside and outside the classroom is what drew my interest. This way I could deepen my understanding in how to apply my learning realistically in various environments such as within the scientific community or non-academic settings as well as better define my career path.

I love my program because it provides me with the opportunity to explore different areas within biology while also developing practical skills in the field. Through my courses, I have been able to participate in labs within the Science faculty at Waterloo, which I really enjoy because they are hands-on, engaging, and make up some of my most memorable learning experiences!

I chose the University of Waterloo because of its focus on experiential learning and the chance to learn beyond the classroom. I like that students have the flexibility to pursue co-op or, if they choose not to, can still gain valuable experience through programs like EDGE. These opportunities to build skills and gain experience are one of the things I value most about Waterloo.

How I get involved: I love to attend a lot of WUSA events and keep track of the events for various Science clubs! Although this is my first year as a Science Ambassador, I'm hoping to do a lot more for the student community and explore clubs outside of Science as well.

I love Honours Biology because I get to explore a lot of different courses and specializations! As someone who's a little indecisive, getting to explore different courses/content allows me to discover what I like best!

My older sister likes to think I came to Waterloo to follow in her footsteps, and although there may be a little truth to that (don't tell her I admitted that!), there's so much more to it! Waterloo has some incredible co-op opportunities that give me the chance to gain hands-on experience in a variety of work environments and explore different career paths. On top of that, the campus has some great study spots and an incredibly supportive student community. Being surrounded by so many motivated and goal-oriented people pushes me to keep challenging myself and make the most of my university experience! :)

How I get involved: I get involved with my surrounding community at Waterloo! I have volunteered at the UW Women's Centre where a strong show of my pride as a queer woman blossoms. Helping and talking to people within fitness spaces in Waterloo has also made me feel so much joy. Now, I'm looking forward to Orientation Week where hopefully I am able to carry this sense of belonging to new students coming to Waterloo.

Why I love my program 

While the knowledge I learn brings me one step closer to aiding people in the future, the core of my love for Honours Biology stems from the people I'm surrounded with. My professors and classmates alike are so passionate in how they teach and learn that it's hard to not let it light a flame within me as well.

Why University of Waterloo? 

I chose Waterloo for their Co-op programs and organized outlines on their websites. Real-world, applicable, hands-on experiences are very important to me. Through Co-op, I feel that I am able to determine what I would like to do as well as careers that I would like to avoid in the future. Additionally, the outlines on the Waterloo websites were clear and concise. This relieved some anxiety I had with picking universities and was a factor in my ultimate decision to join Waterloo.

How I get involved: I enjoy getting involved by volunteering at different events like the Kids' Science Open House, attending club gatherings, and connecting with other students on campus. I love my program because it's so hands-on. We get to explore many different areas of biology through labs that use techniques and equipment many undergraduate students don't have the opportunity to experience. I think that it makes what we learn in class much more exciting and worthwhile.

I enjoy going to various clubs and events with my friends to meet new people and explore campus life!

I love my program because of the flexibility it offers. With a wide variety of courses to choose from, I get to explore all the different fields of biology and discover new interests. As a hands-on learner, the labs visualize the content being taught in lectures and help solidify my understanding, while I develop my lab skills. Also, with a large program such as this one, I get to meet like-minded students and become part of a community that supports my academic journey.

I love studying Biology at Waterloo because it combines hands-on experiences with what we learn in lectures. My labs let me apply what I learn in class, build practical skills, and problem solve on my own. Waterloo's co-op program has also been a highlight, giving me valuable work experience. Working in different positions has helped me grow both academically and professionally. Physically seeing what we learn in the workforce, makes my education far more engaging and rewarding.

I chose Waterloo because it really felt like a university town. Everyone here is very friendly and welcoming and the city of Waterloo offers amazing restaurants, nature, and entertainment. The University of Waterloo is also a great school with a focus on academic excellence and that motivates me to push through my studies along with everyone else here. I am also in the co-op program so Waterloo has provided an amazing system for me to discover what I like and don't like in the workplace. Overall, I am glad I chose Waterloo!

How I get involved: Apart from being a Science Ambassador, I am a volunteer with Let's Talk Science and have been a front line leader at Waterloo's orientation. In addition, I work at a pharmacy and shadow at an optometrist's clinic.

Why I love my program 

I love my program because of how flexible it is. My program allowed me to complete many of the prerequisites required for both my career options within my course sequence, while also allowing me to explore my interests through the various electives. In addition, the Biology program covers a huge variety of topics, like Microbiology, Genetics, Human Physiology, Ecology etc, which allowed me to discover different spectrums of science and explore different paths.

I chose the University of Waterloo because of its strong foundation in science education and its emphasis on hands-on learning. The opportunities for hands-on laboratory work and field work have been so valuable in my learning experience. I was also drawn to Waterloo's supportive community and the many opportunities to get involved outside the classroom through clubs and faculty events.

Career goal: Upon graduating, I plan to complete an accelerated BScN Program to become an RN. I realized I wanted to chose this pathway through one of my co-op placements as a Patient Transfer Attendant. Through this placement, I realized my passion for patient care and the impact that a compassionate healthcare worker can have on a patient's experience.

How I get involved: I first became involved at Waterloo through Campus Housing as a Residence Ambassador in first-year. I've then held several student-staff positions as a Residence Life Don, Front Desk Assistant and Move-in Coordinator. Through Campus Housing, I've met countless first-year students and strive to help them find their place at UW.

Why I love my program 

I love my program because of the diversity of biology classes I can take. The biology program does a great job at setting you up with pre-requisites in first and second-year to allow you more freedom in upper years. I like taking a wide variety of classes from Biostatistics to Biology of Human Aging.

Why University of Waterloo? 

I chose UW because of the co-op program. Out of high school, I did not really know what career path to take, so I knew that I needed some sort of work experience before getting my degree. Although I am no longer in the program, it has helped guide my career path and given me invaluable experiences.

I love Biology because I get to explore so many different things while being offered a hands-on approach. I love having the opportunity to explore different minors and specializations and just getting to customize my degree to whatever I want. The customizability of Honours Biology allows me to connect my love of math to my program and be on course for an applied mathematics minor

How I get involved: Apart from being a science ambassador, I enjoy staying involved on campus through volunteering and leadership. I currently volunteer at Open House, Let’s Talk Science, and Chem Lab Days, where I help with science outreach and student engagement. I also serve as a Frontline Leader during Orientation and am an executive with UW Students for Partners in Health Canada (UW SPIHC). Previously, I worked at the Science Coffee and Donut Shop, volunteered with Global Brigades, and served as an executive with the Black Medical Leaders of Tomorrow (UW BMLT).

Why I love my program 

I love Biomedical Science because it lets me knock out all my optometry prerequisites while still leaving room for electives, which helps my GPA and lets me explore interests outside of science. The courses themselves are genuinely interesting, and they're structured in a way that sets students up to succeed. On top of that, the people in the science department, both students and professors, are incredibly supportive.

Why University of Waterloo? 

I chose Waterloo because of how connected the city feels to the university. There's always somewhere to hang out with friends or a new café to try after class. The social atmosphere is welcoming, and being surrounded by ambitious students makes it easy to meet people and start conversations. What I love most is how students at Waterloo push each other forward instead of competing, everyone kind of becomes each other's inspiration.

How I get involved: I love staying involved in the Waterloo community through leadership, volunteering, and student organizations. I've been a Science Orientation Leader, an Off-Campus Community Don, and a volunteer at Fall and March Open Houses, where I've enjoyed welcoming and supporting new and prospective students. I'm also involved with Let's Talk Science and serve as a Marketing Executive for WatSAM and UW Chai and Verse. These experiences have helped me build connections, develop leadership skills, and give back to the Waterloo community.

Why I love my program 

When I first applied to Waterloo, I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to pursue in science. I just knew Biomedical Science sounded like a program I'd enjoy. Looking back, I'm so glad I chose it. Through my courses and labs, I've discovered new interests, gained a deeper understanding of human health, and explored the many career paths the program can lead to, such as pharmacy, dentistry etc.. I especially enjoy how the program combines classroom learning with hands-on experiences, making what I learn feel relevant and helping me explore the many career paths available in healthcare.

When I attended events like Open House, I was inspired by how passionate and supportive the students, faculty, and staff were, which made me feel that Waterloo was a place where I could truly belong. How I get involved: Aside from being a Science Ambassador, I’ve loved getting involved in so many ways during my time at Waterloo! I’ve volunteered at the Science Open House, worked as a Residence Tour Guide, and been an Orientation Leader, all of which have been incredible opportunities to connect with future students and share what life at Waterloo really is like. I am also a member of the Biomedical Sciences Association (BMSA) and the Endocrinology Undergraduate Students’ Association (EUSA). To stay balanced outside of my studies, I join Waterloo Running Club meetups, casual trivia nights, and paint events to stay active and meet students from across different faculties.

I love that Biomedical Sciences covers all the prerequisites for various professional schools while still giving me flexibility to take fun electives and explore different interests. The program offers extensive hands-on experience through biology, chemistry, and physics labs, allowing me to explore different scientific fields and directly discover where my passions and career goals lie through my coursework.

Moving here from out of province was a big leap out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to challenge myself in a new environment. Waterloo gave me the perfect balance of rigorous academics and a vibrant campus community. How I get involved: I got involved by following clubs on instagram and looking at the many posters around campus. Emails from SciSpace are also an awesome way to find out what is going on around campus especially since they got right to your email! Lastly, going to club events and talking to others is a great way to find new opportunities. Since they are there, they most likely are interested in some of the same things as you so you can learn about what they are also involved in too. Maybe even find things to do together!

Why I love my program 

I love my program because of the focus on biology and chemistry as well as the many options for electives. The required courses are very relevant to what I want to do in the future and still offer me many options to specialize in other topics as well. It gives me a good structure to start university and find out what my interests are.

I love my program because it exposes me to a wide range of science courses I wouldn't have taken otherwise, which has helped me discover new academic interests I didn't know I had. The lab courses give me hands-on experience with scientific procedures, which will be valuable for working in a lab environment. Even with a full science course load, there's still room for electives, so I can learn more about my non-science passions as well. On top of all that, the program ensures I'm meeting the requirements I need for graduate school without me having to worry about selecting the right courses.

How I get involved: There are so many diverse ways you can get involved at Waterloo! I’ve had a great time getting involved across campus in a bunch of different ways throughout my first year. On the student leadership side, I served as the First-Year Representative for the SciSoc, helping organize initiatives and advocate for students, and I’m also stepping into an Orientation Leader role to welcome incoming science students. On the academic side, I am an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Developmental Visuomotor Neuroscience Lab. Outside of academics, I keep active through intramural basketball and love taking part in community events whenever I can!

How I get involved: I love to get involved in the Waterloo community by attending events hosted by the multiple different clubs that our university has to offer! In my first year, I attended off campus community events and made some of my closest friends there! I also went to different events such as iftar nights, game nights like science family feud, hot takes night etc! I meet a lot of new people through these events, and it helps me stay social and keep balance during heavy exam and midterm seasons, which ultimately helps me push forward. I also try to get involved in volunteer or job positions such as orientation volunteer or teaching assistants!

Why I love my program 

I love Biomedical Science because of the course sequence and the flexibility we have. For the first two years our schedules are mostly decided for us, but we have an elective each time which makes it super easy to minor in something if I wanted to do so, or just take a fun course that I have interest in. I personally love learning new languages, so the fact that I get these electives allows me to explore different cultures and languages around the world, and have one course each term that i can 100% look forward to and enjoy! The course sequence is also really nice because everything builds off of eachother, so I'm not going in blind into new courses, but at least with some background knowledge, which makes the learning experience less scary and more enjoyable. I also love the community and how there is always events being hosted where you can meet new people and get involved. Meeting people within your program is always so nice because you can relate to them, and also help each other out, and study together as well!

I chose Waterloo because it has such a strong reputation for academic excellence, and it is also known for its strong co-op program for students looking to enroll. I love how this university helps challenge me, while also helping me build real-life skills that I can put to use throughout my life. The Waterloo community is absolutely amazing, and everyone is so welcoming and ready to help you whenever. You never feel alone at Waterloo, and there are always opportunities to get involved with new people and make a bunch of new friends. I ultimatley want to graduate with a very strong academic foundation, and with waterloo I believe it is 100% possible. There is a good combination of study-life balance if you manage your time properly, which insures you get the full university life experience. Overall, Waterloo had been my first choice since the day I entered grade 9, and I have no regrets whatsoever!

How I get involved: Outside of being a Science Ambassador, I volunteer with the Stem Cell Club to support individuals wishing to join the stem cell registry and tutor students in math and science courses at Waterloo. I also serve as a note-taker for Waterloo's Accessibility Services.

Why I love my program 

I love my program because it gives me the flexibility to take courses I am interested in while also setting me up for success for any professional schools or master's programs I wish to pursue. I also love that the majority of the science courses in Biomedical Sciences have a lab component, which honestly makes things easier to learn, especially with the hands-on experience!

How I get involved: I enjoy being involved in opportunities that allow me to support and connect with the Waterloo community. Through roles such as a Teaching Assistant for biology labs (BIOL 130L & BIOL 240L), I have had the opportunity to help students build confidence in their laboratory skills and navigate their academic experiences. I have also contributed to student engagement as a Science Orientation Leader, Academic Coordinator with the Science Society, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Student Ambassador, where I work alongside others to help create a more welcoming and inclusive campus environment. I have also been involved with residence life as a residence Don, supported students through my work as a Library Assistant, and participated as an executive member with the Sudanese Undergraduate Student Association (SUSA). Also, I enjoy volunteering at UW Day, March Open House, and Fall Open Houses to help welcome new students and share the sense of community that makes Waterloo special.

Why I love my program 

I love Biomedical Sciences because it allows me to explore my curiosity about the human body and how science can be used to improve people’s lives. Every course gives me a new perspective and motivates me to keep learning more about healthcare!

How I get involved:  In addition to being a Science Ambassador, I have volunteered during the Physics Lab days, have recently gotten involved at the Earth Science Museum, and was a front line leader during first-year orientation.

I love the Earth Science program because of the flexibility in the way you can learn about what interests you through the different specialization options.

How I get involved: I really enjoy going to different club events and events on campus. One of my favourite activities I’ve volunteered for is the Gem and Mineral show hosted in the Earth Sciences Museum. I also encourage any Earth and Environmental students to check out the Earth and Environmental Student Association club named WATROX.

I love learning, I love being outside. Being in Environmental Science means I get to do both!

I chose Waterloo because I liked the campus and that it was easy to find information about my program. I could see what classes I would take for my program and what opportunities my degree could lead to. The co-op program also allowed me to explore different work environments and have a strong understanding of how to apply the things I’ve learned in class. I love the ecology program because I get to learn about the environment from so many different angles. I also really like that it's a smaller program, which gives you the chance to get to know everyone. And my favourite part of the program is definitely the labs! I love being able to apply what I've learned, get outside, and do hands-on experiments and fieldwork.

I also was a volunteer for WUSA GLOW, where I helped organize and host a variety of weekly and term-based events! Beyond my volunteer commitments, I've also written a student editorial for Imprint!

The Honours Sciences + CAP program is great because it offers you a clear, focused pathway for your university journey. Whether it's the CAP advisors who are there to help and give feedback as needed or the amazing cohort of students, it creates a really clear pathway for me to succeed at UW!

Career goal: I've wanted to become a pharmacist for a long time because I like helping people in a way that has a direct impact on their daily lives. Working in a pharmacy showed me how much trust patients place in their pharmacist, and I want to be someone they can rely on for advice and support. In the future, I'd like to work in a community pharmacy and eventually own one of my own. For now, my focus is on learning as much as I can at Waterloo so I can provide the best care possible.

How I get involved:  I get involved at Waterloo by staying active in our campus and its community. I love participating in intramural sports, especially basketball, and it has been an amazing way to stay active, meet new friends, and build teamwork outside of the classroom. I am also involved in student clubs, such as the Poker Club, where I like to connect with different people who share similar interests, and enjoy learning the game through friendly competition and strategy. I also enjoy attending all campus events I can, and this helps me establish connections, develop leadership skills, and communication. Overall, it has made my university experience at Waterloo an amazing one!

Why I love my program 

I love Honours Science with CAP (Conditional Admission to Pharmacy) status because it fully allows me to explore all the fields of science, while still maintaining and building my strong foundation for a future career in pharmacy. The courses I take help my critical thinking skills and apply what I learn to situations in the real world. Furthermore, with the small class size of CAP students, I am able to surround myself with likeminded, passionate students who are motivated about pharmacy and willing to succeed. The CAP pathway makes my ultimate goal of becoming a pharmacist much more attainable, and every class that I take brings me one step closer to helping out those in my community.

I chose Waterloo because of its reputation in science and engineering, the learning environment, and the opportunities the school offers for students to grow both in and out of the classroom. The Honours Science program with CAP status is exclusive to Waterloo, and it gives passionate students who want to become pharmacists a focused pathway to achieve their goal. As well, the school offers a large sense of community on campus, and there are many ways that students can get involved at school, including clubs and sports. Waterloo offered me the best balance of academic excellence and an amazing student life, which was exactly what I was looking for.

How I get involved: My favourite way to get involved at Waterloo has been attending a wide range of club events, especially ones that let me try new things and meet new people. I used to be involved with SciSoc and am currently part of COCA, and I also serve as a First Responder with the Campus Response Team, which has been a meaningful way to stay engaged on campus while discovering new opportunities. 

Why I love my program 

I really like my program because it’s flexible and lets me focus on courses I actually enjoy instead of ones I’m not interested in. It also gives me the chance to explore different areas of science, which works well since I like trying a bit of everything. I’ve even been able to take some health and humanities courses through Honours Science, which I think adds a really useful perspective.

I chose Waterloo because of its excellent education and its supportive community. Also, my dad, my favourite Waterloo alumni, always spoke highly of the opportunities and ways to get involved in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, which really stood out to me. How I get involved: I like to get involved at Waterloo by volunteering with Let’s Talk Science! It’s a great workshop where I get to visit elementary schools and high schools around the area and interact with future students who might also be interested in science. Joining clubs is another way I like to get involved. The pre-optometry club and cooking club were the ones that I participated the most in.

Why I love my program 

Honours Science is awesome because of its flexibility. I’m able to complete all my pre-requisite courses alongside with other science or non-science courses that I find interesting. Since I’m able to take any science course I like, I’m also able to take the (sometimes optional) lab courses as well! I love working in a lab and being able to gain lab experience in different branches of science is an opportunity I wouldn’t get with another program.

I chose Waterloo because if I get into the optometry program after my third year, I’m able to obtain my undergraduate degree in addition with the Doctor of Optometry degree. This saves me a year of school. I’ve also heard how friendly and welcoming the science community is at Waterloo, and forming relationships within the community is important to me.

Just by talking to more people in your faculty, you find out all the different opportunities there are for you at Waterloo.

Why I love my program 

What I love most about Honours Science is the freedom. I'm not locked into one discipline, so I get to take courses across chemistry, biology, physics, and earth sciences and figure out what I actually love as I go. More than half my courses are electives, so my degree feels like it's built around my interests instead of a rigid checklist, and I still get to keep doors open for grad school or professional programs down the road. It's the perfect fit for someone who loves science but wasn't ready to pick just one favourite.

I chose Waterloo because of how welcoming and inclusive the community felt, even before I started classes. With so many clubs, faculty societies, and events, there's a place for pretty much everyone to belong and feel supported. How I get involved: This is my first year joining the Science Ambassador Team! In my first year, I was an Events Executive for Waterloo's Alliance of Cancer Care Equity (ACCE UW), where I helped plan fundraising events. I also got involved by attending campus residence events and volunteering with Canadian Blood Service, which helped me meet new people and get connected with the Waterloo community!

How I get involved: I found that Waterloo has a little something for everyone! I took that opportunity to get involved in two areas I'm deeply passionate about… science and music! Aside from being a science ambassador, I am an executive member for the UW Pre-Optometry Club. I have also volunteered at Kids Science Open House as a chemistry lab demonstrator! Around the UWaterloo area, I have volunteered at a local community music school as a piano teacher. All these opportunities have been super insightful and rewarding! I am also highly involved in the UWaterloo EDGE Program. The EDGE Program is Waterloo’s unique, non co-op, experiential education program focused on building valuable career skills!

Why I love my program 

I love the flexibility of the Honours Science program! Going into university, I was constantly debating between pursuing optometry or music education. I enjoyed science in general because there was so much knowledge about the physical and natural world that could be learned from the subject. Yet, I also felt very inspired and fulfilled by music education. Both felt like very opposite career goals and so I believed I could not have both. However, I discovered that the Honours Science program would allow me to pursue optometry school pre-requisites while earning a minor in music! Plus... I could still graduate on a four year timeline!

When I was initially deciding on what university to attend, Waterloo was my top choice mainly due to its very flexible and customizable science programs! Once I took a tour of the campus, I fell in love with the quieter, more serene environment (plus the wildlife!!). Why I love my program 

I love Mathematical Physics because it allows you to see the beauty of physics encoded with math. Without a good knowledge of mathematics, it would be very difficult to understand all the nuances embedded in physics. In the early years of highschool, I really enjoyed math and later in highschool I found physics fascinating. When I first applied to university, I chose Physics and Astronomy but later switched to Mathematical Physics for this reason — being able to understand physics a lot better with stronger mathematical skills!

I choose University of Waterloo out of all universities I applied for primarily because of co-op: it gives you the chance to accumulate work / internship experience while you are at university, and it is also very close to the Perimeter Institute, creating the possibility to get good physics internship as one of the best and useful experience through my undergraduate years!

How I get involved: Getting involved at UW has been one of the most rewarding parts of my university experience. I’ve been involved with a variety of organizations focused on community engagement and service, including serving as a Fundraising Lead with the University of Waterloo Orphan Sponsorship Program (UW OSP) for several terms. Through this role, I’ve helped raise funds to support orphans and communities affected by poverty, emergencies, and humanitarian crises around the world by contributing toward food, education, healthcare, and overall quality of life. I’ve also served as Sponsorship Director for the Society of Pharmacy Students (SOPHS), co-founded Waterloo Raising the Roof to support initiatives addressing homelessness, and been involved with organizations such as the UW Cancer Foundation and Hemoglobal. I'm also a Special Events Residence Ambassador (SERA), where I help run events and give residence tours for prospective students and families. These experiences have given me a strong sense of community and have been a defining part of my time at UWaterloo.

Why I love my program 

If I had to pick my favourite thing about Waterloo's School of Pharmacy, I'd have a hard time choosing between two things: co-op and the people. As Canada's only co-op PharmD program, it has given me opportunities to learn far beyond the classroom, from working in the ER as a pharmacy student to completing a placement at the head office of a pharmacy banner. Getting to apply what I'm learning in real healthcare settings has been one of the coolest and most rewarding parts of my degree, and has helped prepare me for becoming a pharmacist. The other answer is easy: my classmates. Pharmacy school comes with plenty of lectures, labs, and exams, but it's also given me some of my closest friends and favourite memories. Having a group of people to celebrate your wins with, survive exam season alongside, and somehow still laugh with after a long day has made the experience even better.

I chose Waterloo because I was accepted into Honours Science through the Conditional Admission to Pharmacy (CAP) program, and I knew early on that pharmacy was the path I wanted to pursue. Waterloo's CAP program felt incredibly unique, and I hadn't come across anything quite like it at other schools. I loved the support system and sense of security that came with having advisors, mentors, and peers who understood the journey and were there to help along the way. Looking back, CAP gave me the perfect foundation for pharmacy school and really set me up for success when it came time to apply.

How I get involved: During my first year, I was a part of the University of Waterloo choir, and I am currently in the process of starting an astronomy club with some other physics students at the university.

My program is awesome because I get to learn how everything works through physics and math. It's challenging, but that's part of why it's so great - I'm always learning something new. I've also been passionate about space since I was little, so I love that I get to take courses where we learn about things like stars, planets, and cosmology. Basically, we use physics and math to explain how the universe works, which is why I think my program is so cool.

I chose Waterloo for its strong physics program and co-op, which will allow me to get work experience in my field before I graduate. I also love the range of extracurriculars offered which allow me to pursue my interests outside of physics as well. One of the things I really appreciate about studying physics at Waterloo is that it teaches you so much more than just physics. The program helps you develop strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills that are transferable to so many different fields. I like knowing that, even while I'm figuring out the exact path I want to take, I'm building a skill set that can open doors to a wide range of opportunities.

How I get involved: One of my favourite parts of being at Waterloo has been getting involved outside the classroom. I've volunteered as a SciEye Orientation Leader, where I had the chance to welcome new students and be part of one of the biggest events on campus. I've also been involved with the Physics Club, serving as both the Librarian and VP Internals, helping organize club initiatives, manage resources, and support events for fellow students. I'm now excited to get involved as a Science Ambassador because I enjoy sharing my experiences, meeting prospective students, and showing them what life in the Faculty of Science is really like. Getting involved has been a great way to meet people across different programs, develop leadership skills, and become part of the Waterloo community.

Why I love my program 

What I love most about physics is that it constantly challenges the way I think. I get to explore the mathematical side of physics while also learning the theory behind how and why things work. I also really enjoy seeing how ideas that start out as abstract theories can be applied to real world problems, from modern technology to understanding the universe around us. Every course introduces something new, which keeps the program exciting and makes me appreciate how broad physics really is.

Career goal: I’m still exploring my options, but I would love to pursue a future in Science Communication or Education!

How I get involved:  Getting involved on campus is one of my favourite ways to learn new things and meet new people. I've been involved with the Biology Undergraduate Society (BUGS) as VP Social, and with the Kids Science Open house (KSOH) a couple of times now. My favourite volunteer experience, hands-down, has been Orientation! Helping with orientation over the past 3 years has brought me so much joy, and I am so excited to be a team captain this year! I also try my best to attend as many events on campus as possible! One of my favourites is the LASA events (vai Brasil!)

Why I love my program 

I love Honours Psychology because it is a mix between science and art! I get to pursue a BSc, learning and growing through both academic and hands-on experiences, directly through the courses I take. This program offers insight into numerous psych and science disciplines, allowing you to tailor your academic career specifically to your interests! I don’t think I’ve met anyone in my program who has had the exact same sequence of courses, and that’s what makes it so special!

Why University of Waterloo? 

When deciding on schools, Waterloo was the only one I found who combined my interests of art and science in an interesting and exciting way. Since the day I stepped foot on this campus, I have never regretted the decision to come here. I've experienced so much academic and personal growth since my first year, and have built a wonderful community I don't think I could have cultivated anywhere else (which I know, is surprising for Waterloo’s reputation, but it is the truth!).

How I get involved:  I get involved at Waterloo by participating in activities within science community as a whole, as well as my individual program. Showing up, attending events, volunteering, meeting peers and connecting with them are all great ways that help me get started.

Why I love my program 

I love my program because I get to learn something new and apply it at the same time while flying. It creates a good balance, where I get to enjoy both my science courses and flight training. One day I could be in a chemistry lab making something new, and the next day I get to fly and learn a new skill. The mix of science and flight training keeps every day different and unique.

Why University of Waterloo? 

I chose Waterloo because of the flexibility my program provides. I get to choose which science courses I want to focus on while completing flight training at my own pace. Since every student can customize their degree and get involved in different ways, no two experiences look exactly the same. That flexibility is a big reason why I chose Waterloo; it lets me pursue both of my passions.

How I get involved:  I participate in Faculty of Science outreach initiatives, attend University of Waterloo Aviation Society events, and am actively involved in the aviation community through flight training and student engagement opportunities.

Why I love my program 

I love my program because it combines my passion for science with my goal of becoming a professional pilot. The mix of scientific coursework, aviation training, and hands-on learning has given me a strong foundation while allowing me to apply what I learn in real-world settings. Having an Earth Science minor has also broadened my understanding of the natural world and complements my interests in aviation.

Career goal: My career goal is to pursue a career in the health sciences where I can make a meaningful impact on people's lives through science, healthcare, and innovation. I am excited to continue exploring opportunities in medicine, research, and biotechnology as I progress through my studies.

How I get involved: I am the Varsity Basketball Team Manager, a Teaching Assistant for many SCBUS courses, a Science Orientation leader, and an executive member of several student organizations, including the Neuroscience Association (UWNSA) and SBSA. I also enjoy participating in community outreach and mentorship opportunities both on and off campus.

I love the Science and Business program because it allows me to explore both my passion for science and my interest in business. The interdisciplinary nature of the program has given me opportunities to learn about scientific research, entrepreneurship, commercialization, and the healthcare industry, while connecting with an incredibly supportive and driven community of students.

The opportunity to combine both my passions, as well as a specialization in Biotechnology aligned perfectly with my interests and career goals. How I get involved: I stay involved at Waterloo through undergraduate research, attending employer networking events, meeting with professors and alumni to learn about different career paths, and participating in campus initiatives that support my interests in science, business, and finance.

Why I love my program 

I love the Science and Business program because it allows me to combine analytical thinking with real-world decision-making. I enjoy learning the scientific principles behind innovation while also developing an understanding of business strategy, finance, and entrepreneurship. The interdisciplinary nature of the program has strengthened my problem-solving skills and taught me how to approach complex challenges from both scientific and commercial perspectives. It has also given me the flexibility to explore diverse career paths, including finance and asset management, while building a strong foundation in critical thinking and communication.

How I get involved: In addition to being a science ambassador, I am also a part of the UW Supporting SickKids Club, Pre-Med Club, Science Society, and WiSTEM. Moreover, I volunteer with AccessAbility Services as a notetaker while devoting time to my involvement with Waterloo Science Outreach. I have also had the pleasure of being a Science Orientation Leader this past year, and am currently working as a research assistant with a faculty member from the University of Waterloo's School of Pharmacy.
